#73: The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

March 8, 2010

So what’s it about?: So, when an actor dies during the filming of a movie, you add a ton of random CGI and distract the audience with ensuing chaos.  That’s what this film was about, right?

The Good: This film had some really cool visuals.  And a new take on the traditional good vs. evil battle complete with temptations and everything, and that’s always makes for an interesting movie in my book.

The Bad: Probably one of the most incohesive movies I’ve seen in a long time, but hey it had a good excuse, right?  But even taking into account that they filmed all the through-the-mirror sequences without Heath Ledger, that doesn’t fix the fact that the script was a piece of crap.  Yeah, it was a good idea but frankly the dialogue sounded like it was written by a pretentious film student.  In the end the story just didn’t even make much sense at all.

The Verdict: Cool idea gone bad.  But if you like quirky visual films its def worth a rent.
