#65: The Lovely Bones

December 20, 2009

A great book and Peter Jackson leading an awesome cast?  How could this movie go wrong.  Oh, if only I could go back to before…

So what’s it about?: A 14-year-old girl is murdered (on December 6, 1973).  As she tries to accept her death in wonderland, her family simultaneously tries to deal with her murder and solve it while her murdering just goes around being creepy and the police go around being incompetent.  Oh, yeah, and I guess some chaos among all that chaos ensues.

The Good: Heaven is really pretty.  Yay.

The Bad: Let’s just say I rarely want to walk out of a film, but this just became so painful to watch at times that sitting in the lobby of the movie theater for two hours seemed more interesting.  And I’m not talking good painful like Precious.  I’m talking why-the-hell-am-I-watching-this-awful-movie painful.  Every actor in this movie should take it off of their resume because frankly they all sucked, with the exception of Stanley Tucci who managed to do a creeptastic job at a creeptastic role.  And the plot had so many subplots that by a staggeringly short 30 minutes into the film I was bored and apathetic.

The Verdict: Please, please go and pick up the book, because it truly is the polar opposite of this film.  Just be sure to stay as far away from this film as possible.
